Hair stylists receive training in the use of Threadmancy, with a particular focus on using the Artisanal Magic for the manipulation of hair. Air Weaving is a required skill when apprenticing as a beginner, while Thread Reinforcement and Chromatic Threadmancy can be taught on the job when required.   Some stylists will also pick up additional skills such as Hydromancy or Anemancy to assist in their work, or Telepathy to convey their progress and intentions, although these talents are by no means required.

Most hair stylists work in groups within salons specially built for their services, with separate stations for cleaning hair prior to styling. Large carefully angled mirrors allow customers to view their in progress efforts and provide feedback, while desks and wall hooks provide ample storage for tools such as brushes and clips intended to reduce the magical efforts required for the job. An open flooring plan allows for ease of cleanup after each customer, as well as at the end of the day.   A select few within the profession will make house calls, visiting clients at their homes or workplaces. These stylists are experts in their field, able to adjust to varied conditions while still providing the same level of service found in a salon. As a result they also charge higher rates, to compensate for travel, skill, and convenience.

Hair stylists assist the citizens of Fillimet with hair care. Basic services include cleaning, untangling, cutting, and styling customers' hair, often adding magic to assist the hair in retaining the desired shape and behaviors. Stylists can also strengthen aging or damaged hair, and even alter the coloration. Those particularly skilled in Chromamancy can even encourage new hair growth to retain the desired color for days or weeks past treatment.
