Fire Company

Fire Companies are responsible for containing and eliminating fires, usually through a combination of Hydromancy and Pyromancy. Most fire companies use fire wagons to transport their own water to the site of the fire, although this is unnecessary if the fire is in close proximity to a large water reservoir such as a river, lake, ocean, or a firefighter-accessible water tower.

Composition

Vehicles

Most fire companies possess at least one fire wagon, which allow the firefighters to bring their own water to the fire site. This is particularly necessary in more arid locations but also for particularly large or hot fires.   The larger the area of responsibility covered by the fire company the more fire wagons generally required to successfully fulfill their duties.

Structure

Fire Companies report to a Fire Captain who is responsible for directing everyone's efforts once the team is on site and fighting a fire. While the Captain does not typically combat the fires themselves due to their coordination requirements, they are well versed in the jobs of all team members and will step in as needed for the good of the team. Typically the Captain is the most experienced member of the Company, although due to the interpersonal skills required for the job there are some exceptions.

Training

Firefighters serving on a company are always well-versed in Hydromancy, especially in water manipulation although skills in the more advanced fluid manipulations have also proven useful to relocate possible flammables.   Most firefighters are also well-versed in the fire manipulation abilities of Pyromancy, allowing them to more directly control the spread of the flames to redirect them as a form of fire control. Skilled veteran firefighters tend to master fire suppression pyromancy as well.   Anemancy is also a highly desires skill among Firefighters, allowing them to suffocate fires for lack of flammable air.   Firefighters whose primary tasks do not typically involve physically contronting fires are still required to know the basics of Hydromancy but tend to shy away from Pyromancy and instead possess other magical and professional talents more in line with their specific tasks. Many of these individuals have had difficulty controlling the volatile spells of Pyromancy in past attempts and have therefore been reassigned for safety reasons, although some simply have particularly useful talents that are better used elsewhere.   Larger fire companies also employ at least one Rune Mage. This allows the team to perform their own maintenance on their equipment, especially the fire wagon. Smaller teams will more often rely upon a rune mage employed by the manufacturer of their wagon, due to the explosive nature of incorrectly charged Pyromancy runes.

Fire wagons allow Firefighters to bring their own water for fire suppression efforts. Most Fire Companies possess at least one wagon, with those responsible for larger areas without readily available water reserves relying upon multiple wagons.

Hydromancy
Technology / Science | Jan 23, 2021

Hydromancy focuses on the manipulation of water, with later training allowing for its application on other liquids as well. Due to its utility and low cost of entry many people have learned the basics of water manipulation.

Pyromancy
Technology / Science | Dec 21, 2020

Pyromancy deals with the generation and control of fire in all its many forms. Unlike most classes of magic pyromancy also requires the user to have full awareness of their own emotions due to pyromancy's tendency to feed on emotions as well as Imperium.

This is a really cool idea! I love the take on a fire department here.

Thank you!   It's a lot of fun working through how magic would be used in everyday application. I am glad you enjoyed it.
