Third Law of Magic
Magic permanently changes the creatures repeatedly exposed to it.
Manifestation
Long term exposure to magic has a permanent affect on creatures, depending upon the type of magic. The Portal Horse is the most well known example, due to the beautiful and strange colors and patters developed on their coats due to frequent Portal Travel and their exposure to these fields even before birth. Heavy exposure to dark magic, on the other hand, tends to twist creatures into nightmarish forms as seen in the inhabitants of Kogal Island.
The young and the very old are more susceptible the effects of magical exposure due to their lesser physical defenses against the changes, but anyone can be effected given enough time with strong enough magic.
Localization
Magic Type | Effect | Notable Examples |
---|---|---|
Antimagic | Anti-magic drains magical reservoirs faster. Enchanted items will need more maintenance, and spellwork will require more Imperium. Locations with the strongest anti-magic exposure will no longer respond to magic at all. | * |
Vitriol Magic | Dark magic twists and corrupts the creatures who dare to remain too long within its reach. | The Calamity, Soul Poisoning |
Electromancy | Lightning-based magic had been known to disrupt the functions of the brain, bringing about early deterioration or other mental issues. | Dementia |
Portal Travel | Frequent exposure to portals and Portal Travel causes living creatures to develop multicolored swirls and patterns. These effects are superficial and have no lasting effects on the subjects. The changes are not genetic. | Portal Horse |
Type
Metaphysical, Arcane
This is really interesting! I can't believe I'm just discovering the laws of magic. I'm quite curious as to how (and why) magnetic magic seems to escape that third law..
I do need to flesh out better what each of the effects are, so the table here is a work in progress. (Wonder if I should switch to one of those fancy tables now...?) BUT in answer to your hinted question... My current main goal is to finish up the Divine Magics, and Magnetic Magic is part of that, so hopefully you can read about it soon! :)

Ooooh thats exciting!! I'm hyped to read about them! The fancy tables could be nice though I personally do struggle a bit with making them look good :')
I am on mobile, so will have to see what is doable for me there haha. Would love to have a four column table, to also show the branch of each magic when applicable, but three seems to be the limit on mobile for visibility purposes.
