Forgiveness Prayer
May our blessed suffering bring us your forgiveness.Rol'nara hold that forgiveness is important for a functioning community, and must be sought in all cases where an individual or group has committed a wrong against another. Sometimes the wronged individual is not available to appeal to directly, through death or requested separation from the harming individual, in which case this prayer would be used. Although the act of requesting forgiveness is important in some cases it would not be safe for the harming individual to approach the wronged party, either due to the potential for physical danger or intentional emotional harm from the wronged party, in which case this prayer will also suffice. The prayer must be heartfelt and honestly delivered, or the words won't count.
May your empathy lead us to our redemption.
Participants
The prayer is always spoken aloud, typically by an individual for themselves or on behalf of a group to which they belong to request forgiveness for a shared transgression, although in some cases an entire group may recite the words in unison.
No audience is required for the prayer, although in some cases it may be recited in front of relatives of the injured party in an effort to also obtain their forgiveness.
Observance
This supplication for forgiveness is typically spoken when requesting forgiveness for an action or outcome which cannot be undone where the individual wronged is not available to appeal to directly. The speaker is requesting the Goddess Patheia serve as a substitute for the injured party and through her mercy forgive their guilt. While it can be prayed at any time it is particularly common at Rol'nara Funeral Celebrations.
